Ideals are necessary. One might ask – which ones? In today's twilight of the gods, it's no wonder this question arises. But the answer, like the ideals themselves, cannot be conjured up in an attic or elsewhere. Humanity's ideal values have developed alongside it over millennia, and there's neither hope nor need to invent new ones. We must rescue them from the past and preserve them for the future. This doesn't mean fleeing to the past, but rather bringing past values into the present can be an achievable program. Today's propaganda machines have ground all concepts into mere words and throw them at readers and listeners in the strangest of combinations. It's doubtful there have been crazier somersaults than those concerning democracy and freedom today. Yet, these values will remain valuable, despite the flood of counterfeit.
